Special Wx Statement – Gusty winds alert

Special Wx Statement – Gusty winds alert
John Bobel
January 31, 2018

Update: 3pm – January 31

Strong winds are ongoing across southern Indiana and central Kentucky this afternoon. Expect sustained southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with frequent gusts of 30 to 40 mph to continue through 6 PM EST.

Unsecured objects may get blown around. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution…especially on bridges and ridge tops.

In addition…gusty winds and low relative humidity east of the I-65 corridor may create an elevated risk for uncontrolled fires.

Strong winds are expected across the region today under a tight surface pressure gradient. Winds from the southwest of 10 to 20 mph will gust to 30 to 40 mph from mid morning through early evening.

Unsecured loose objects may be blown around. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution.

Gusty winds and low relative humidity over portions of east central Kentucky may also create an elevated risk for uncontrolled fires.

Here’s the complete forecast.
