Severe Storms Preparedness Month

Ways to Get Ready for Severe Storms

Ways to Get Ready for Severe Storms
John Bobel
March 2, 2016

Lightning_Severe_Storms_Prep_Month_16As part of Severe Storms Preparedness Month, the Lexington Division of Emergency Management (DEM) has several activities planned to remind people in and around Fayette County to be prepared for severe spring weather.

Throughout March, drivers will be reminded to “Be Prepared” via electronic portable message boards at several intersections throughout Lexington. Drivers will be prompted to visit the Lexington Division of Emergency Management website – BeReadyLexington.com – for information about severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, flooding and power outages.

In cooperation with the Lexington Public Library and the YMCA of Central Kentucky, DEM will have information tables at several locations throughout the month. In addition to information about emergency preparedness, visitors to the locations will be able to enter a drawing for several FREE NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radios. The schedule of locations is available on the BeReadyLexington.com website.

New for March is a podcast from the Lexington Department of Public Safety radio program “Safe and Sound” that airs on WLXL-LP Wednesday’s at noon. The podcast is available anytime at: http://lexkyem.podbean.com/

Additionally, DEM staff members will appear on local television and radio programs to talk about severe storms preparedness.
More information about emergency preparedness is available from the Division of Emergency Management website: BeReadyLexington.com. Information and alerts from the division are also available through the DEM Facebook page: LexingtonKYEM and the DEM Twitter account: @lexkyem.
