Fayette County Clerks Office Closed Temporarily

Fayette County Clerks Office Closed Temporarily
John Bobel
March 27, 2020

The Fayette County Clerk’s office will temporarily close and cease all operations due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Fayette County Clerk Don Blevins, Jr. said, “I completely support and agree with Mayor Gorton’s decision to limit local government to essential services. We are entering a time where it is crucial to limit the transmission of COVID-19, and this is an important component of our strategy.”

Automobile Registration and Titling

The public still has two options for renewal of their vehicle registration. First, online renewal is available for most vehicles at drive.ky.gov. Second, registration renewals may be mailed to:

Fayette County Clerk
162 E. Main Street
Lexington, KY  40507

Mail-in renewals should include the prior year registration receipt, proof of insurance, and payment. Online renewal instructions are included at the website listed above.

Note that online and mail renewals will be received, but not processed until we return.

Vehicle transfers remain suspended until further notice. Individuals that have purchased a vehicle from out of state will need to retain their documents until we can reopen. Individuals selling a Kentucky-titled vehicle to another person will also have to wait until we reopen to complete the transaction.

Elections and Voter Registration

Voters may continue to register to vote or update their addresses by submitting a new registration form online at www.govoteky.com until 4:00 p.m. on May 26th.  Registrations by mail must be postmarked by May 26th.

Voters who qualify to absentee vote by mail may submit an email request to voters@fayettecountyclerk.com.

We will process voter registrations and absentee ballot requests as soon as we return.

Notary Licenses

Notary oath and bonding are currently suspended while we design a COVID-19 workaround. Watch www.fayettecountyclerk.com for an update regarding how we will service these transactions. We expect to have an update sometime the week of March 30.

Marriage Licenses

Marriage license applications are currently suspended while we design a COVID-19 workaround. Watch www.fayettecountyclerk.com for an update regarding how we will accommodate applications during the outbreak. We expect to have an update sometime the week of March 30.

Permanent Records, Real Estate

Document recording may still be submitted by mail at the address above, but will not be processed until we return.

Copies of Permanent Land Records, Other Records

Copies of records will not be available until we return.
